Rumor: Super Mario Galaxy Pre-orders Have Reached Over 400,000

September 15th, 2007 Posted in Rumor, Wii

It can’t be denied that Super Mario Galaxy is one of the most anticipated games for Wii. Even so, 400,000 is a surprisingly strong number of pre-orders. After some digging by GoNintendo.com, that’s the number that they came up with. If the rumor is true, that would only be the number of pre-orders recieved by GameStop. This estimate doesn’t include all the other retailers.

One of our readers has been hunting down information on this, as have I. I actually ran out to an EB Games this morning to check it out. Reader Andre had heard from a GameStop employee that Super Mario Galaxy had hit 400,000 preorders via GameStop/EB in the US. He has gone through a few more employees, and keeps getting the same answer. I have now asked two employees about the preorder totals, without offering up the 400,000 number. Both employees gave me the same 400,000 response. It’s not an official number by any means, but let’s hope it is at least indicative of the excitement level for the game.

Most pre-orders happen approximately a month or two before the game launches. If this number is any indication, there’s a chance that Super Mario Galaxy could reach at least a three-quarter million launch, if not an entire million.

400.000. Is that for NA only? I wonder what the numbers for whole globe is

  2. Cayke Says:

Surely they’ll reach 1 mil by November 12. Japan alone will have about 300,000 pre-orders since Nintendo practically own the Japanese console market.
