PSP Sales Surpass DS
September 21st, 2007 Posted in Nintendo DS, PSP
Good news comes to those who wait and it seems Sony has waited long enough . This week’s hardware sales chart from Japan reveals that the PSP has topped the sales of Nintendo DS for the first time ever, mostly due to the fact that Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII was released.
For the week ended September 16, over 95,000 PSP units were sold, whereas the DS sold around 80,000 units. The Wii came in third with 26,000 units sold. Full figures are expected soon.

Again no relevance in the western market…

I’d say by now everyone in Japan already owns 3 DS, so it’s unsurprising the PSP sells well when they finally put out a decent game for it.

Wonder how long it would take for 360 to come close to any good sales in Japan. They’re practically giving it away and still no one wants it. What will it take? Maybe if Microsoft bought the exclusive rights to a Final Fantasy 7 remake, maybe that would push some more units.

@ Ron: Who cares if they own DS. If they get PSP which cost more Sony wins becaus they profit more.

While this is great for Sony fans everywhere, with Japan being a major market and all, I don’t think PSP will stay on top for very long.

see what good games can do for a console?? all the PSP needs is some more good games to be a worthy competitor for the DS. but without that, the DS will be back in the lead in no time. aarrgh!

Yeah the psp might have sold more but that was only one month, congrats psp. Who doesnt own a ds? The money nintendo’s making now is everyone buying another ds because its so great. Nintendo’s sales blow psp sales away, its not even a race anymore. People say how the psp makes more profit because of the price difference, but look at it this way the ds is cheaper to make. Nintendo’s finally back on top the way in the gaming world, the way it should be.
