SCI/Eidos Reports $60m Loss

September 30th, 2007 by James Hyde in Business, PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox360

SCI, the company which acquired game publisher Eidos in 2005 have reported a $60 million loss for their financial year ending June 30. In a time when most game companies are making money (like a certain Halo 3 publisher), it must be tough to have red numbers on the balance sheet. SCI and Edios, owning such IPs as Hitman, Tomb Raider, and the upcoming Kane & Lynch, one would expect they should be on the safe side, but as anyone knows, competition in the gaming world is fierce. Eidos says the bad performance - where sales dropped 20% compared to last year - were due to poor timing of new product launches, and a weaker retail price on previous gen consoles.
