Not Enough Wiis This Holiday Season
Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed to Mercury News that they cannot meet the demand for Wiis this holiday season, as the demand for the console is simply too high. Last month Reggie optimistically said that Nintendo is on track to deliver Wiis for everyone this holiday season, but apparently now faces the facts,
“We’re working very hard to make sure that consumers are satisfied this holiday, but I can’t guarantee that we’re going to meet demand. As a matter of fact, I can tell you on the record that we won’t. What I can tell you is that typically, our inventory is lasting a day… I don’t think we will know when supply crosses with demand until after the holiday season,”
The Wii remains a top seller worldwide – over 11 million systems have been sold since launch last November. Several analysts predict that the Wii will reach sales of 12 million this year, some even confident it will reach 13 million. If Nintendo can keep up the current production pace (said to be at one million/month), that is.
