Unreal Tournament 3 For PS3 Delayed
October 2nd, 2007 by Brian Lockhart in FPS, Multiplayer, PlayStation 3
It’s starting to look more and more like the PS3’s Christmas lineup has come and gone. With the triple release of Lair, Heavenly Sword and Warhawk, most of the future titles are being pushed into 2008. Unreal Tournament 3 is another unfortunate causality. Something that was cause for celebration for PS3 owners, as a game going timed exclusive in their favour is rare. Now however Unreal Tournament 3 will be releasing in 2008, joining the 360 version. No word on the status of the timed exclusive now, but one thing is certain, no Unreal Tournament 3 for anyone.

Wrong my friend … PC users will still be able to play UT3 in November according to Epic’s VP. And there goes my only compelling reason for a PS3 this year. So yeah definitely going to put that money into upgrading my PC and on Wii games.

From GameSpot:
“The official story, from the Epic board, is NOT a development ‘issue’, but an upgrade. The PS3 version was supposed to lack some maps from the PC version due to a lack of ressource, but they managed to optimize the PS3 version so that it will feature everything the PC version has (except the ability to MAKE mods, obviously). So even if it will miss the holidays, the delay is very positive.”

Thanks for the update. The comments from Midway above were a report to shareholders to let them know that a delay is likely, although Mark Rein remains hopeful that it will see a Christmas release (although it seems unlikely given Midway’s thoughts).
And yes the PC version is indeed still on track! So looks like no Console versions are likely this year.

I don’t see how the delay is a positive one … it seems to be that it they lose out on the time limited exclusivity they had on this title as far as consoles are concerned and we know that right now PS3 games in general do not look better than their 360 counterparts … only in a handful of games are their real improvements and that is really related to time and seeing how they should have done it for the 360. (like Oblivion for example). If the game hits around the same time for both consoles you can bet that the 360 will have far more sales.
