$300 Million First Week for Halo 3
October 4th, 2007 by Rajiv Ashrafi in Business, FPS, Xbox360
It comes as no surprise that Halo 3 has raked up more than $300 million through its first-week worldwide sales. This makes it the fastest-selling video game ever (beating Halo 2) and is one of the most successful entertainment properties in history.
The game has also doubled sales of Xbox 360 hardware, compared with the weekly average before it launched.
“Halo is truly a cultural phenomenon, and the launch of ‘Halo 3′ is an important milestone for Xbox 360 and for video games as entertainment and as an art form,” said Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft. “Halo 3 embodies our vision for the future of entertainment, where some of the world?s greatest creative minds will deliver a new generation of interactive storytelling.”
It was recently reported that Halo 3 beat Gears of War to become the most played game on Xbox Live, logging more than 2.7 million gamers.

Congratulations to Bungie for making such a great game that so many people around the world enjoy for one reason or another. I knew it would do well this week but 300 mill surpassed even my estimates. I figured they would do about 250-275 million. It really makes me laugh at how Rein likes to brag about Gears having sold 3 million copies in 10 weeks. Hell, Halo 3 is going to shatter that record big time … it is already projected to have sold some 2.4 million copies so by the end of this week that 3 million mark should be shattered and it will only have taken two weeks.

I still see nothing great about this game. Just like 2, people run through bullets, I guess because of having a shield. Im more of a bf2, real to life style shooter.

Good game, not great though. It isn’t the “important milestone for Xbox 360 and for video games as entertainment and as an art form” that Microsoft says it is, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Congrats, Bungie. Now make a different game.

If a game is fun, then people will play it. If it is well marketed and advertised, then people will buy it. Sure it’s a simple minded and unoriginal… so what. I love RPG’s personally, but every RPG is “find this magic weapon to defeat so-and-so”. Sure I wish games were more intelligent and better made, but hey… most people are not. Most people and most kids these days fit right in to the simple plot and shoot-anything-that-moves mentality of Halo. And I for one am guilty of enjoying it.
