Sony Just Messed Up Again, 60 GB SKU Is No More

October 8th, 2007 Posted in Business, PlayStation 3

Well, to be honest, we’re not surprised. How can you be with all the mess and all the PR blunders that have been going on during the past year? Well, it just got worse for European PS3 fans (or future fans), as Sony has announced that the 60 GB PS3 will only last as long as there are supplies, after that, bye bye 60 GB PS3. What will be left is the 40 GB version, which doesn’t feature backwards compatibility, has 2 less USB ports and no memory card reader. It will retail for 300 GBP.

There can be two reasons for this; 1) Sony has completely lost it, or 2) they’re introducing another PS3 SKU for this holiday season, perhaps a 120 GB or 160 GB version.

When will they stop experimenting and just stick to one, or two, or any number of SKUs, instead of changing everything, every few months?

What good is a PS3 that won’t play your old games? Most people don’t want 15 game systems fighting for control of their TV (I know I don’t, anyway).

What a real mess … Sony looks like they have lost all their business savy when it comes to this market. I don’t get it … they got the PS2 so right and yet they are misfiring on all cylinders when it comes to the PS3. It is almost like they want MS and Nintendo to win the current gen crown. Maybe they are already thinking about next gen (though next gen for them is supposed to be 8-10 years away).

there’s something not sane in the way they are going about the ps3, its so amateurish compared to ps2 launch, i think they got a bit too up their ass with the success of the ps2 and think they can do whatever they want now. how wrong they are.

It’ll be hilarious if they introduce a 120 GB or 160 GB PS3 in a month or so… it would completely shatter the little respect consumer have in Sony. If they buy a 120 GB today, is it still there in a month, or is it replaced by a 100 GB and another 250 GB version is introduced.

At this point one can do nothing but laugh at Sony, and hope they hire someone who’s at least mentally stable enough to see the big picture.

I was one of the few who genuinely considered getting a new 80 GB PS3, but now, hell no. I can wait until Killzone 2 arrives.

And I can wait for God of War III. Sony blew it as far as I am concerned. I was going to get one by the end of November but now all that money will go upgrading my PC further (like stepping up to a new GTX gpu and getting a new PSU as well).

Sony should just take the hard drive out of the PS3 and cut the price in half. You can easily put in your own hard drive and Sony knows it.

Who thinks older PS3s will sell for a profit on Ebay again?

  7. John Rodriguez Says:

WTF is up with this shit why dont they make up their fuckn minds before they sell the damn console..

  8. Eric M. Says:

Hey Sony employees and fan boys want bigger hard drives

  9. Evander Says:

I would have rather have a 40gb and full backwards compatibility. Nintendo was smart with full compatibility of gamecube games.
