This next-gen cycle is total BS. Software is overpriced, downloadable content is very much overpriced, system failures, Microsoft coming out with yet another version of the 360 every week (an exaggeration, but still...). I bought 360 premium back in January then in April they screw the pooch by coming out with the Elite. I bought into that, thinking it would be the final, "premium" Microsoft product for this cycle. I don't care about Blu-Ray or HD-DVD as far as movies are concerned, I'm fine with DVD. If Microsoft comes out with an all-in-one, which wouldn't surprise me because they have proven to me they can't stick something for a reasonable amount of time, I'll be pissed off, seeing as I bought a Premium...then an Elite (which was pointless since every 360 has HDMI now). Also, if it does come out AND they do make HD-DVD games, they can't be surprised people show up on their doorstep with torches and pitchforks, unless they make a very much deserved trade-in offer making the system transition cost 50-100 bucks, depending on the model. Hey Microsoft, you listening? I just gave you a good idea to squeeze a few extra bucks out of those who have already invested in your product, you blood-thristy succubus!

If this happened I'd feel obligated to get a new 360 - especially if they began selling HD-DVD games. I'd hate for that to happen, even if it does mean technological progression for the console.

This is good, for those of us who have decided a format to use for HD. I still don't think the world is ready yet. A lot of people still don't even have HD tvs, and on cable (which most people have) doesn't even have that many HD channels. Even if you do have an HD tv everything that isn't HD looks kinda pixelated.

Will the DVD player be able to upscale regular DVDs?

What I like about Blu-ray is that ALL of the players are 1080p, where as the HD-DVD drives have to be a high end model to be 1080p. What I still like about HD movies though is that if you don't have or can't afford an HD player but know that you want HD movies, you can go ahead and buy movies so that when you do get a player you're ready. Only problem is that you don't have that big of a selection because some movies are only coming out to BD. Which is why its too early to decide.
But I still think its a good idea for Microsoft to include it in the Xbox. If you think about it this way, if the difference in price of the 360 and the price of a 360 including a HD DVD drive is less than $180, you are saving money than by buying them seperately.

I doubt it but if this is real well then if you're willing to wait that would be sensational.

Oh no this is happening and this is great news for those of us who want an all in one system. Microsoft has proven that they can make a great gaming device ... just look at the numbers (both hardware and software) so they can now go ahead and create the ultimate total media entertainment device that allows a person to do just about anything ... and they are throwing in wireless.

I doubt many people will openly balk now because it is two years later and the HD-DVD format has proven that it has staying power and will be around for a while ... so now there are more than enough games and movies so that people won't mind spending upwards of $600 for a complete system that is wireless, can do 1080p, has HDMI, has a Hi-Def video format, has huge storage capacity (120 Gbs), and has a proven library of excellent games and solid movies for the HD-DVD format. I know I don't mind although I do hope they can find a way to keep the price around $475-$550.

Toshiba stated something like this before, when the PS3 was due to be launched, and MS smacked them down. I doubt that this will happen.
