Nintendo Denies Wii Price Cuts, Once Again
October 26th, 2007 by James Hyde in Business, News, Wii
When both Sony and Microsoft are slashing prices and introducing new, cheaper SKUs, some thought Nintendo might do the same. Unfortunately for them, Nintendo isn’t slashing prices on the Wii anytime soon. Speaking to AP, Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata flat out denied any price cuts, saying “We’re absolutely not considering a price cut.” There you have it.
The Wii is still at $250, but now faces a challenge from the Xbox 360 Arcade, which sells at $280. With cheaper manufacturing next year, Microsoft will most likely lower the price of the Arcade to under $250, to which Nintendo will have to respond. At that time (in a year, at least) they would have sold some 20 million Wiis, so it wouldn’t be that big of a deal for them to go under $250, perhaps even at $199.

Well now … maybe Nintendo will make HD version in three years … then I can get excited about the Wii all over again.
Good to know that by next year they will decrease the price of the Wii … believe me they will have to. Then I will get a black one … cool!

HD version wouldn’t be that difficult, just add an upscaling chip and an HDMI port

An HD Wii would be amazing, but will never happen…ever. The 360 Arcade can be steal some of the spotlight from the Wii. The question is can the 360 Arcade use XBL? If so, we got a winner.
