Xbox 360 Becoming A TV?

October 27th, 2007 Posted in News, Rumor, Xbox 360

Even the Xbox 360 provides television shows via the marketplace, but according to a rumor, the next fall update could take things to the next level. Apparently someone received a repaired 360 that included incomplete settings for internet protocol television, which is simply TV over the internet. It seems like the natural thing for Microsoft to do since will Sony offer a similar feature in 2008. The update will reportedly also act as a digital video recorder. The question is, will players be able to record gameplay on it? If so, will the video file be exportable to a computer? Only fall will tell.

Boy I can imagine explaining this to my grandkids:

“You know back in my day we didn’t have an all in one box. If we wanted to watch shows, we used a TV, if we wanted to play games we used a console, if we wanted to check our emails, we used a computer. Thats the way it was, and we liked it like that.”

Is how much money are larger harddrives the question your asking? If so – the official 120gb HDD for the 360 sells for around $180.00 at retailers like Gamestop. http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802643 If they allow you to use this new DVR service with external harddrives, which I’m sure they will, you can pick up one for dirt cheap at sites like http://newegg.com or similar.
