Hoping to capitalize on the success of the coming Resident Evil games, Capcom and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan have announced that they are collaborating on a full-length computer generated film based on the franchise. Simply dubbed Biohazard: Degeneration, the film is being made for Japanese audiences and, as Capcom puts it, will feature “groundbreaking visual effects and a brand-new storyline.” It is planned for release during 2008.It is currently not clear whether it will follow the trilogy of live-action Resident Evil films that have done quite well in Hollywood. No other details were announced - Capcom is being tightlipped about plans for distribution - theatrical or straight-to-video - as well as the timeline for release in other territories.
