World Heroes Anthology Announced

SNK Playmore USA announced today that they’ll be bringing back yet another classic 2-D fighter franchise as an anthology collection. This time the ‘making money off the retro’ treatment will be given to the World Heroes series. The premise behind these games was that a time machine allowed for a fighting tournament that transcended history, with fighters from all over the world fighting against opponents not only from other places but other times. The company’s president, Ben Herman said: “The time-travel element allows for the inclusion of characters inspired by figures ranging from ancient philosophers to modern-day athletes.” My personal favorite of the series was the ubiquitous Brue Lee clone, known in this series by the subtle name of Dragon. The series features weapon-based combat as well as hand to hand fighting and a variety of special moves. The anthology will combine four games: World Heroes, World Heroes 2, World Heroes 2 Jet and World Heroes Perfect. Look for it on the Playstation 2 in Spring of 2008.
