40 GB PS3 Uses 65nm Cell After All

November 9th, 2007 Posted in Hardware, News, PlayStation 3, Technology

First we reported rumors about the PS3 running on new 65nm chips, then Sony denied it, and now they’re partially confirming it after all. Sony’s Kaz Hirai has said that the Cell chip in the 40 GB PS3 is indeed 65nm, while the RSX graphics chip is still 90nm. Nvidia has recently released their first 65nm graphics chip, so it probably won’t be long until they manage to shirk the RSX as well.

Hirai also said that the 40 GB version is the only one in production at the moment.
