Mass Effect Banned In Singapore

November 12th, 2007 by Will Prusik in News, RPG, Xbox360

Romances in video games have been around since almost the very beginning. Even Mario and Link are presumed to have romantic entanglements with their respective damsels in distress. Many RPG games like Baldur’s Gate 2 and Jade Empire have begun incorporating romances into the very fabric of the story and gameplay. Mass Effect is one of the first games to feature a lesbian sex scene. While even Jade Empire had the possibility of a female/female romantic pairing, the video cut out before the two could actually kiss. However the relatively racy lesbian alien sex scene in Mass Effect has thrown up red flags in Singapore and the game has been officially banned according to blog GameAxis. Given that Bioshock and almost every Grand Theft Auto game has been banned in Singapore in the past, this is likely not just a rumor.
