PS3 Dust Damage Voids Warranty

November 12th, 2007 Posted in Business, News, PlayStation 3

An unfortunate PlayStation 3 owner sent his console in for repairs only to get a call letting him know that the dust which had broken his unit also voided his warranty. Letting his PS3 get clogged with dust was categorized as either ‘customer abuse’ or ‘an act of god’. Apparently the customer service representative who handled this case was unable to actually explain how his unit being clogged with dust counts as either neglect or an act of god. Regardless, if you have a PS3 you might want to cover it when not in use or maybe clean it out with a small, low-powered vacuum now and then

    COMPRESSED AIR VOIDS THE WARRANTY!

Maybe you should check on things like that before posting them!

The only thing covered is using a small low powered vacuum to vacuum the vents etc. Opening the case or using compressed air voids the warranty according to reps i spoke to.

If you saw the pictures of the PS3 unit in question you would understand. We aren’t talking normal household dust build up, the unit was caked in dust. Its a case of customer neglect imho. Link is picture of the unit. http://consumerist.com/assets/resources/2007/11/Front.jpg
