Microsoft Project To Get The Axe

In the latest 1UP podcast we received news that an upcoming Microsoft project is going to be cancelled. Speculation is already flying as to which title it will be since it’s supposed to be a game people have been excited about. So far a few titles have been proposed:

Banjo Kazooie
Too Human
Fable 2
Alan Wake
Halo Wars
A Marvel licensed MMOG

Given the huge success of the Halo franchise and the fact that Bungie is still cooperating on Halo projects with Microsoft it’s not likely Halo Wars will be cancelled. A Rare employee let it be known that it definitely wasn’t going to be their new Banjo Kazooie project. The Fable 2 community site manager assured everyone that it wasn’t the sequel to Peter Molyneux’s ambitious RPG and given that Fable 2 reportedly looked good when it was last shown to the press, it might not be that either.  A Remedy employee assured forumgoers on their official site that this rumor “has nothing to do with Alan Wake”. Silicon Knights’ Too Human has had a string of development problems and delays but they were just as quick to assure the public that their project wasn’t on the chopping block. The likely success of a Marvel-license MMO (probably RPG) is enough to instill doubt in anyone’s mind as to its continued existence.

Given that everyone was quick to point out their projects aren’t the ones getting the proverbial thumbs down it’s possible that they haven’t been informed yet, Microsoft hasn’t decided, or maybe the source of the information was mistaken.
