Microsoft today announced that Xbox Live has reached 8 million users worldwide. They also used the occasion to confirm that Xbox 1 games will be available for download for Xbox 360 users after the December update. Furthermore, to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the service, Microsoft is giving a free game to all Xbox Live users – Carcassonne – will be available for download on November 15.

This July Microsoft announced that Xbox Live had 7 million users, and that they’ll reach 10 million by Summer 2008. That certainly looks like an achievable goal at this point.
