Seagate Hard Drives Ship With Virus

November 14th, 2007 Posted in Business, MMO, News, PC

If you’ve purchased a Maxtor Basics Personal Storage 3200 hard drive after August 2007 you might have a hard drive that came infected with a virus. Called virus.win32.autorun.ah this virus searches your computer for passwords to online games and then sends them to a private server. The uber-popular World of Warcraft is unfortunately one of the games affected. If you think you might have one of the infected drives you can head over to the Seagate website where their customer service representatives can help you determine if you’re one of the unlucky people to get this virus. They are also offering free virus removal services if you are infected.

I’m soooo avoiding Seagate from now on!!! How can you ship a product with a virus on it? Even worse is the fact that you are a storage manufacturer. You would think they have the best policies in place to prevent this.
