Midway announced that it has shipped Ultimate Mortal Kombat for the DS. The game fuses the lighting fast fighting technique found in the arcade version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 with the ‘puzzle Kombat’ found in Mortal Kombat: Deception to create one title.
As expected, the game features multiplayer modes both locally and through Nintendo’s Wi-fi Connection. It features record-keeping capability and various fighting modes. The game retails for $29.95.

1Sorry to correct you on one point, but this isn’t the first Mortal Combat title on a Nintendo handheld. I’m pretty sure it was Mortal Kombat 2 that was released for the Gameboy and Gameboy Color handhelds (a very poor “light” version of the arcade and console versions IMO) back in the 90s. Not very noteworthy, so I could see how it could be overlooked. I actually owned this title and thought it was a waste of money (fortunately it wasn’t my money, it was a gift from my parents).

2Thanks for that! I didn’t find any other portable MK titles, so I thought this was the first one. Edited article to reflect that.
