Analyst Evan Wilson from Pacific Crest Securities says that their sources are saying that Nintendo has already completed a new DS Lite design, one with no GBA port, internal storage, has bigger screens and is thinner than the current DS Lite. However, don’t expect it in stores anytime soon, as apparently Nintendo won’t release the new console until sales of the current DS Lite start to decline, which won’t happen anytime soon (the DS is the best selling console week after week for over a year in Japan at this point).
Business-wise, it makes sense, as there is no need for a new DS console, however, there is need to keep pushing the technology, as the DS is getting more competition from the PSP these days. If the rumor is true, Nintendo will probably wait until March/April with the new DS, and then have huge volumes for the upcoming holiday season.
