Study Links Video Games To Agressive Behavior. Again.

With the depressing amount of violence in our society and the overall American tendency to look for the quick easy scapegoat to fix our problems many psychologists have sought to find links between playing violent video games and aggressive behavior. Another study recently published has attempted to do just that. Conducted by a father/son psychology duo this study looked into the effects of playing violent video games on a fairly broad range of ages. It looked at students from 3rd to 5th grade, 8th to 9th grade and college students with an average age of 19. Although the study reported strong links between the two younger age groups playing violent video games and exhibiting violent behaviors, the released study findings didn’t include any information on the older age groups. Likely there was no real effect on the college students (I do plan on hunting down a copy of the study to find this out). This of course poses the question: what’s the problem? We have the ESRB to inform people what’s in these games and then it’s up to the parents to monitor their children’s media consumption.
