True to their history, the new BF2142 patch 1.4 didn’t do much of a difference, actually. On several forums, including the official one, users are reporting that the new “kit save feature”, doesn’t really work, and randomly selects new items every time players spawn (which I can personally confirm). It also appears that the game freezes more often than before, resulting in “lost server connection”, in addition to the usual crashes.
At this point, EA has managed to screw up the Battlefield franchise in so many ways that it’s impossible to fix. Best thing to do now is to scrap all support (it’s not like there was much support in the first place) and focus on Battlefield 3. Patch 1.4 for BF2142 certainly seems like the last one, if not for a quick fix, 1.41, same treatment BF2 got.
BF2 is still selling good, two and half years after release. EA is making a good deal of money on ranked servers and there are still thousands of players playing every day, despite all the issues. Why EA can’t get their act together and start properly supporting the game is beyond common sense at this point.

1because there are people still playing, and EA know they will pay and still play. if people did something like, boycott, then there may be a change.

2Dude, it’s EA games. They buy amazing companies, then forced them release products not yet completed.
I couldn’t understand bf2, that game only needed ranking fixes. Now, the game is a mess.

3bf2142 was operating fine until I installed the patch 1.40. Now it fails everytime loading maps SP and MP at about 60 percent and goes no further. The game is unplayable unless you hack your game registry files. I should have to mess with that to fix a problem they created. I enjoyed playing it, EA patch killed another game. Farewell Battlefield 2142. Rest In Pieces.

4“I should not have to mess with that” is what I meant.

6It is well known that EA games is a company about nothing but the bottom line. They strive to reach the exact point where the quality curve crosses the profit curve, no more, no less. Providing more support than they do now would cause the game to bring in less profits, and so it probably will not happen except in cases where the curve shifts, such as a successful competing game arriving on the scene, in which case they may increase support to compete, or scrap 2142 entirely in favor of a product that will out-compete the new game.
