Guitar Hero 3 Tops October, Wii Decidedly Spanks Competition
Last month was great for videogames, as sales jumped 39% according to this Wall Street Journal article. However, it came in below expected returns as sales of Halo 3 considerably slowed down, though it was overtaken by a new juggernaut – Guitar Hero 3, which has been bringing in quite a lot of money for Activision. The guitar-simulation game sold over 1.2 million units.
On the hardware front, the Wii came, unsurprisingly, on top again, selling 519,000 units as compared to the Xbox 360 which pushed out 366,000 units during the same period. The PS3 lags in sales, seeing sales of 121,000 units for the month. However, Sony recently cut the price on the console, so sales for this month are likely to rocket.
Finally, the story is the same on the handheld side – DS sold about 458,000 compared to 286,000 by the PSP.
