DigitalBattle’s Wii Holiday Buying Guide
Thanksgiving is upon us, Black Friday is rearing its ugly head, and you are stuck with the task of gifting for that special someone. While the best products are certainly more ambiguous than last year – you’ve got a lot of crap to dig through – there are many great options to choose between. So let’s start out with the essential piece of hardware, and move our way through many of the ideal products for the holiday season.
Heck, 14 million units have been sold worldwide, but that doesn’t mean these things are easy to find. It’s more than likely you didn’t get a console last Christmas, and while it’s not quite impossible this year, it won’t be easy. Word of advice, if you want a Wii, start looking immediately, or crack out the wallet to pay still heightened prices from other consumers.
There is no better selection of games right now than those available with a Wii points card. Assuming you’ve gotten a Wii under the tree or have one in the living room, with a highspeed wireless connection, you are on the races. Need the perfect stocking stuffer for the kids? Skip the chocolate and give them something they can really sink their teeth into. Heck, it’s even a dollar encheapened right now at Amazon for 18.99, what a steal!
Wii Zapper with Link’s Crossbow Training
Sure the zapper is a little junky, but some people enjoy it, and if you are buying for a young enough audience, I’m sure they will be thrilled. But not only do you get a plastic gun, oh no, the game comes packed in with a pretty solid romp in Link’s crossbow training. Sure it won’t last for days, but a 24.99, this is the cheapest and largest bang for you buck. We all know the bigger the box, the better the present.
Other recommendation: If you’ve picked up the Wii remote zapper, pick up Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, a light gun esque shooter, built with the zapper in mind.

Highest critically acclaimed game of all time? That’s what they are saying at least. Whether or not you feel this is the best piece of software in existence, it pretty well takes the cake on the Wii. Heck – it even contains a cake level. Nintendo goes on about their Blue Ocean strategy, but when push comes to shove, Mario will always be the one mascot that “hardcore” games and non gamers alike are familiar with and will love for generations.
Check out our review of Zack and Wiki to see what all the hub-bub is about. Coming in at 40 dollars, it’s a smart buy for the adventurous type on your Christmas list.
Have a mature hardcore gamer on your list? Why not hit up one of the best games of last generation, updated with Wii controls and at an incredible 25 dollar budget price. Usually, I’m not big on ports, but when care is taken and with such a critical hit as Resident Evil 4, it’s easy to look beyond it.
Need some more ideas? Here are some other worthwhile purchases this year for the Wii.
Guitar Hero 3 – (If you can find it!)
Metroid Prime 3
Mario Strikers Charged
Medal of Honor: Heroes 2
Big Brain Academy
Batallion Wars 2
Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn
