Take heart gamers: when our nation has collapsed as all empires inevitably do and we’re living off the scraps of food we can scrounge and grow from the cold hard ground, they’ll still be putting out titles for your Xbox 360. From 2003 to 2006 the gaming industry grew by 17%, with the US Economy only growing 4% in the same time frame. California is by far the most densely concentrated area of game industry talent: about 40% of the industry’s reported 80,000 employees live there. Those workers bring home wages totaling more than 2.2 billion dollars and through their efforts contributed over 3.8 billion dollars to the USA’s market value in 2006. This year the industry is set to bring in over $18 billion dollars this year between hardware, software and peripheral sales.
