Environmental activist group Greenpeace has published a new version of their “Guide To Greener Electronics”. Japanese gaming giant Nintendo has appeared for the first time on this listing and gets an impressively terrible zero out of a possible ten. The criteria companies are judged by are relatively narrow in scope however. The only two things Greenpeace is concerned with are 1.) removing potentially hazardous materials from products and 2.) taking back and recycling products when they become obsolete. They completely disregard energy sources and uses as well as standards of labor.
Given the fact that many gamers hold onto their existing systems unless they cease functioning (I still have my original Super Nintendo) is it really fair to blame Nintendo for not offering services to dispose of things people likely still want?
