Xbox 360 Fall Update Details

November 30th, 2007 by Will Prusik in News, Xbox360

While a fair amount of attention has been paid to the parental timer that will be included in the fall update of the Xbox 360 there are a plethora of other features and design updates coming soon. The Xbox Originals will be available when the update happens; Halo, Fable, Crimson Skies, Psychonauts, Fuzion Frenzy, and Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex will all be available for download at a mere 1200 Microsoft Points ($15 real world cash). More backwards compatible titles will be added to the list at a later date.

Both the Live and Marketplace blades will be reorganized and revamped. The Live menu will now feature Inside Xbox, which will give you pictures, news items, screenshots and other features to keep you updated on new products and events in the world of Xbox live. The Marketplace section has gotten a complete makeover that makes it easier to use and more aesthetically pleasing. The Spotlight section will allow you to browse through the most popular content whether it’s video, DLC, demos or full games. New Arrivals lets you check out the newest stuff added to the marketplace. The Game Store and Video Store sections will take you to their respective contents. There’ll also be a new section that’s essentially a bargain bin for Live Arcade games. Bankshot Billiards 2 and Lumines Live will be available for 800 MP ($10). Marble Blast Ultra, Small Arms, and Zuma Deluxe have dropped to 400 MP ($5).

There are some updated profile options as well. Now you can add in your name, location and even some biographical information to your gamertag. I’m sure most people will take advantage of this to put in some ridiculous names and locations. (I myself will be listing my location as R’lyeh)

Video lovers will be happy to note that MPEG4 Part 2 support is coming in this update. For anyone who doesn’t know what that means (yeah, I had to look it up too) is that you’ll be able to watch DivX, Xvid, and Nero Digital compatible videos that you stream from your computer. When browsing through the various TV shows and movies available from the marketplace you’ll be able to watch a preview of what’s available.

Parents will of course rejoice in their ability to set limits on how much time their children can spend playing the xbox, whether weekly or daily.

Look for all these updates starting at about 2am on December 4th.
