Reasons Why PSP Will Overtake DS

December 2nd, 2007 by Rajiv Ashrafi in Business, News, Nintendo DS

ds-vs-psp-kart.jpgIt is common knowledge that the DS has sold much, MUCH more than the PSP. So, why would anyone want to say that the Sony handheld is overtaking the DS? Gizmodo does. And they justify themselves, too.

They have this article up that discusses the reasons why the PSP will, or might, soon take over the position of the DS as the top handheld. Sales of the PSP have increased in the recent months, and Sony has seen much success with their redesigned, slimmer PSP model. There’s also the undeniable fact that the PSP has better-rated games than the DS. Here’s a bit:

PSP actually has more good games to play. According to metacritic, the site that aggregates major game reviews, the PSP has 53 games that are rated 80 (out of 100) or higher, whereas the DS only has 44. Although the DS has three games that score higher than any of the PSP’s (Mario Kart DS, Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass), on the whole it seems the PSP gets you better bang for your buck.

What do you guys think? Does the PSP have enough mojo to defeat the DS?

Don’t know if it can, because the touch screen of the ds and ‘family’ thing it has going means its not just teenagers or young adults that buy it. its a shame the ds has such a few amount of decent more original games, mario needs to die.

I agree, then I disagree at the same time. A handheld is meant to be quick and easy. Jumping over things or playing football would be quick and easy. I’m way to old for handhelds, Evander wants one because you can play :

    Dreamcast :
    PSX :
    DS :
    GBA :
    SNES Emulators
    Sega
    NES

Not bad for only 100 bucks lol

I’m just hoping one day that everyone will get over the casual gaming thing. Remeber the video game crash? No one saw that coming, and no one is gonna see the nintendo crash coming either. Eventually some people will get bored of swining their arms like fucktards and such. I have a nintendo Wii myself, and a DSlite and a PSPslim. I love all my systems, but the whole Wii market is full of horrid HORRID games, that people will buy like crazy because its on the Wii. The DS … eh it just needs developers that actually give a shit about developing games.
