Time Names 10 Best Games of ‘07, Halo 3 #1

December 11th, 2007 Posted in Articles, Business, News, Xbox 360 by Will Prusik

In what was a big year for gaming it seems everyone in both the media and the general populace wants to put forth their opinion on the best games of the year. Time magazine has put out a list whose entries won’t surprise anyone, although the rankings will upset the anti-Halo demographic and Mario fans. Halo 3 was rated number one on the list, although Time may be taking sales and hype factor into account more than gameplay. (Author’s note: I’m not bashing Halo 3. I like the game.) Not surprisingly Rock Band jammed its way onto the list, grabbing the number three spot. Having taken the rhythm/music game genre to a new level with multiple instruments and cooperative gameplay it’s likely this one is on there as much for its innovation as its popularity. Despite many considering it one of the best games to come out recently Mario Galaxy is only ranked #4 on the list. Bioshock was rated in the middle with the number five slot despite awards for its soundtrack and many ‘Game of the Year’ awards from other groups. Here’s the full rundown:

1. Halo 3 – Microsoft (Xbox 360)
2. The Orange Box – EA (Xbox 360, PC, PS3)
3. Rock Band – MTV Games (Xbox 360, PS2, PS3)
4. Super Mario Galaxy – Nintendo (Nintendo Wii)
5. Bioshock – 2K Games (Xbox 360, PC)
6. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare – Activision (Xbox 360, PS3, PC, Nintendo DS)
7. Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass – Nintendo (Nintendo DS)
8. Mass Effect – Microsoft (Xbox 360)
9. Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation – Namco Bandai (Xbox 360)
10. God of War 2 – Sony (PS2)
