Crysis Physics Cooler than Half Life 2’s?

December 15th, 2007 Posted in FPS, News, PC, Technology

We’ve all seen an array of different Garry’s Mod videos and the like, showcasing the physics of Half Life 2, but when it comes to Crysis we’ve only just begun to see the potential of its incredible game engine. Sure it’s cool to make life sized dominoes in HL2 but how about taking 3,000 barrels, stacking them into different shapes, and then knocking them down watching the destruction they cause? You be the judge:

    That was brilliant, i was hoping there would be an explosion one, and it didn’t disappoint.

    WOW… Man, CMON… that is SICK! I try not to brag about too many things but god damn that is fucking awesome! I wonder what hardware this guy has to allow that many calculations to go on without dogging the system!? PhsyX card? Intel Quad Core Xtreme Edition? Whats going on here… more feedback is needed. That is pretty impressive. Atleast I think so. Try and drop tons of bodies in Garrys Mod and let them pile up on each other. That dogs my system pretty bad. Wonder how that would do on this guys system.

    I ripped his specs from youtube, here they are:

    Windows Vista 32 Bit
    CPU: Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
    RAM: 2.00 GB Patriot DDR2 2GB Kit, PC8500 1066MHz
    Graphic: 1 x GigaByte NX8800Ultra, 768MB 2160/612MHz
    NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra

    I think the 2.4 Quad core is very, very impresive. (I wish I had $5000+ to spare) Although, the video is a rendering, not live gameplay. Looks live doesn’t it? I was surrprised when I found out that it wasn’t.

    Mike, that’s just optimization. Crysis’s physics engine is VERY optimized, allowing for more physics calculations going on at once than Havok (Source’s core physics engine) allows. Personally, I think that Source and CryENGINE 2 are both equal, in their own little ways.

    @Andrew. $5000 ? Wtf, the Q6600 is $100.
