Sony has officially confirmed that the upcoming firmware update for the PS3, 2.1, will bring DivX movie playback support to the console. The new firmware should be released tomorrow, and it would be the “full version” of DivX, meaning that developers will be able to use DivX to render in-game videos etc. The new update does not allow you to play copyrighted files, files compressed with DivX 3.11 or earlier, and files larger than 2 GB.
