Sony Tops PR Gaffes List

December 18th, 2007 Posted in Business, News, PlayStation 2

We all know 2007 wasn’t the greatest year for Sony – it had a major loss in the gaming department and got seriously whooped by the competition (though PS3 sales are picking up now). The company also had a bad year in terms of PR, as Fortune’s annual list of 101 Dumbest Moments in Business points out. The Japanese giant made it onto the list not once, but twice.

The first entry refers to the dead goat scandal that Sony produced during the God of War 2 press event in Greece. The company is also chastised for the usage of the Manchester Cathedral in Resistance: Fall of Man without running it by the concerned authorities.

Other gaming companies in the list include Atlus, who had to recall some of its Arm Spirit arm-wrestling arcade cabinets in Japan. Microsoft is also on the list, though not for gaming reasons.
