Jerry Bruckheimer Launching “Incubation” Studio

December 19th, 2007 Posted in Business, News, PC by Will Prusik

After turning many films into box office gold, Jerry Bruckheimer is going to dive into the world of video games. Announced today was the formation of an ‘incubation studio’ where Bruckheimer will partner up with MTV Games to create plans, ideas, concepts and stories for video games. The actual execution of the game will be turned over to an outside group which will vary. This flexibility of choices in what company is making the game should provide some assurance of quality as different teams known for creating quality games of a certain genre could be brought in for what they’re qualified for. Although Jerry Bruckheimer has many box office successes to his name including the “Bad Boys” films, “Top Gun” and the “Pirates of the Caribbean” trilogy as well as the various “CSI” television shows, it’s questionable whether anything good will really come of this. Video games are a very different medium from movies and often require longer, more complicated or detailed plots. Originality is key as well. If this studio churns out wave after wave of generic military action games, nobody’s going to be impressed.
