Activision Keeps Song For Now

December 21st, 2007 by Will Prusik in News

A judge ruled that while the lawsuit is in progress Activision can  the expansion pack for Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks The 80s which contains their cover of “What I Like About You” as originally performed by The Romantics. The band took Activision to court despite the fact that the company legally obtained the rights and permission to create a cover version of the song to use in the game. Presumably this was a cheaper alternative to paying the band for the cost of using the song, but it maybe cost them more in the long run as the band is complaining that the Activision version of the song is deliberately far too similar to their original recording.
