It appears that the Windows Media Player is good for something other than buffering videos. An odd discovery was made in November by the World of Warcraft empire community in Europe. Apparently, a player reported on the forums that by running Windows Media Player minimized in the background, load times for World of Warcraft can be drastically reduced.

Understandably, it has taken a while for the ‘technique’ to catch on among other players. With this said, it has been catching on, and so far all evidence has proven that this works, although it is very unclear why. While this makes about as much sense as getting better gas mileage by loading a vehicle with weights, it does work. We’ll be waiting for the official word from Blizzard. Until then, you can play what you’re going to do with your extra minute of game play.
