Microsoft has sent word that their Xbox 360 console has sod 17.7 million units worldwide to date. The company sold 770,000 units in November, and December sales are thought to be even higher than that. The company also used the occasion to reveal that Halo 3 has sold over 8 million copies to date, an astonishing feat, making it by far the best selling Xbox 360 game to date (Gears of War is at around 5 million). They also revealed that the hardware to software ratio for the Xbox 360 is 6.9, meaning that on average, each Xbox 360 owner has around seven games.

The competition is looking good as well, the Wii is pushing 20 million units sold, a mark it should reach this month. The PlayStation 3 on the other hand, is still looking to break the 10 million barrier, something that should also happen this month.
