Following up on Sony’s recent Skype unveiling for the PSP, Gamespot reports via Japanese news outlet Nikkei Net that the service may launch as early as this month. Unfortunately, the site reports that the software is compatible with the PSP Slim model only. Calls made from PSP-PSP and PSP-PC will be free, with the option for Japanese users to pay for a standalone PSP phone number.

A special microphone will be required to place and receive Sky calls. More information is expected at next week’s CES show in Las Vegas.
