I am really getting sick and tired of this format war. Just when you think one format has the upper hand, the other makes a big move to shake up the playing field. Fortunately, the end may finally be in sight, as fence sitter Warner Brothers has gone Blu-ray exclusive, putting a whole lot of pressure back on HD DVD. While some are calling it the complete end of HD DVD, I’m still not so certain. With a few major studios backing them exclusively, it’s slightly early to count the chickens before they hatch.

The move has also come as a bit of a shock to Toshiba, whom is actually canceling their HD DVD seminar at CES in a few days. The Blu-ray camp still remains on track. If the format was does finally come to an end, this is extremely good news for the confused consumers (although not the early adopters of HD DVD) and especially a bit win for Sony. If Blu-ray becomes the de facto standard, failing sales of PS3 may receive an incredible boost. I’m sure we’ll hear more about this fall out in the weeks to come, but once again it looks like the war could be coming to a close. About time!
