Things are looking up for Sony, as the company announced just before E3 that it has sold over 1.2 million PS3 units in North America between November 23 and December 31, 2007. The company also reported similar sales for the PSP and PS2 during the same timeframe - over 1.4 million and 1.3 million units, respectively.
Sony hopes to make the PS3 profitable in the next fiscal year given the hardware sales of the console and decreasing production costs. “We want to get to the positive side of the equation as quickly as possible,” SCE CEO Kaz Hirai told Reuters. “[Profitability] is not a definite commitment, but that is what I would like to try to shoot for.”

1I think that that the PSP and PS3 have pushed through the rough and have a brighter future to look forward to. Both titles have a great slew of quality software on the way so it all comes down to how Sony try and market the consoles so that people will buy them.

2I don’t know (de facto) inferior DP (no diss), I can see the PSP doing pretty well as a multi-media alternative to the DS, but the PS3? A consumer has $400 in their pocket: He can buy a 360 and a game, or a PS3– this ain’t rocket science. The PS3 needs clout-bearing exclusives to get it out of this rut.
