After its short and painful fall from glory, as the PS3 seemed to be overtaking the Wii in November, it seems Japan has done a 360 (pun intended) in their sales. For the month of December overall, the Wii dominated by outselling the PS3 likely on the back of Wii Fit, which should be leading it into another strong year in 2008.
But when all was said and done, how did the cards fall for the entire year? Enterbrain has posted its sales estimates for the year end, and you’ll notice that the Wii’s are nicely divisible by three, yield the PS3 numbers. The Wii sold through 3.63 million units versus 1.21 million PS3’s purchased in Japan, a hefty difference indeed. We all know the cold hard facts, but with the 360 not even registering in Japan, it seems this generation belongs to the Wii as a console, unless the PS3 can pull it’s own 360 and gain a 3-1 edge in 2008.

Don’t you mean a 180? A 360 would be right back where you started…

2Exactly the point. Japan started with the Wii selling massively. Then the PS3 did well. Now it’s back to Wii dominance.
