No Lightsabers Coming To The Wii

January 12th, 2008 Posted in News, Wii by Brian Lockhart

Before you freak out, yes, the LucasArts Lightsaber game is still on the way, however, what we will never be receivingM apparently is an official lightsaber type peripheral device of any kind, first party or not. The reason for this decision rests solely on Nintendo, whose policy is that they do now want any manufacturers creating a bat like device for the Wii. That would obviously open up a whole new can of worms for the company that is still having nightmares about flying remotes. Imagine the type of trouble they’d be in once people started whacking each other with their lightsabers.

While it’s unfortunate that we’ll never see a true lightsaber, had the policy not stood, I could imagine the type of plastic junk they would have turned out. We all know Wii Remote attachments do not make you any better at the sport. Perhaps Nintendo is really doing us all a favor on calling this decision.
