According to an AP report, Silent Hill (and Pulp Fiction) screenwriter Roger Avary was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of driving under the influence and also of manslaughter after a crash left one dead. He was driving after midnight in Ojai, California where he was involved in a car accident, which killed Andreas Zini, a friend of the writer. His wife Gretchen was ejected from the car and has been hospitalized in stable condition. The writer was released on $50,000 bail after being detailed by the police.
Avary is best known for his work on Pulp Fiction. He also has gaming credits with Silent Hill, and was also most recently developing an adaptation of id Software’s Wolfenstein for the big screen. Production for the film has been halted due to the ongoing writer’s strike.
Id CEO Todd Hollenshead let it be known that the company are “saddened by the news of the terrible accident”. “Our concern is for the family of the deceased and with the recovery of Roger’s wife,” he said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to them in this difficult time.”
