The one feature of Smash Bros. Brawl that I scoffed at was the stickers. Trophies are and were cool, but I felt it slightly pointless to have two different more or less meaningless collection systems. Why collect stickers and trophies, instead of just the one. But of course, being the little geniuses that they are, there happened to be more, a lot more, then met the eye.
As always your characters in Smash Bros. are themselves trophies, and as such, happen to have a flat stickable surface on their bases. And for reasons simply unknown (the trophies come alive, you’ll just have to accept it), when stickers are placed on the bottom of the trophy, you’ll discover a plethora of character stat upgrades associated to the stickers. The bases are fully customizable, and you’ll want to fit as many stickers are possible, with overlap, to reap the rewards.
The stat upgrades only apply during The Subspace Emissary campaign, which is the single/co-op play, and not the actual multiplayer matches. This introduces quite the set of RPG item system elements to an already fleshed out game, and should really provide even more entertainment, as you improve your characters, which will hopefully help you in beating higher levels of difficulty. It’ll be interesting to see what the Dojo has from this point forward, being that the game should have been out in Japan, I’m curious how many updates they have left, or if there still remains an unfathomable amount we don’t yet know of the game.
