‘Bully’ Raising Eyebrows

January 22nd, 2008 Posted in News, Wii

Once again members of the press prove that when it comes to coverage about video games, gut reactions and snap judgments are effective substitutes for facts and actual investigation. With the game “Bully” on its way to the Xbox 360 and Wii, people in the UK have started complaining about the game. Retail stores Currys and PC World have announced that they won’t be stocking the game in their stores following the wave of bad publicity which includes an article in the Telegraph and a statement from the MP of the Labour party, Keith Vaz. Mr Vaz said that “it is hardly encouraging good social values for our children. Just the name Bully is going to attract young people to buy it.” Given that the protagonist of the game spends most of his time attempting to protect other children from bullies in the school, it’s very obvious that the ‘critics’ of the game looked at the title and a few screen shots and made their judgment.
