GTA 4 PC this October?
French site Jeuxpo reports that Grand Theft Auto IV will be released on PC in Europe this October. Though they do not offer any specific sources, they do cite retail plans. Neither Rockstar, nor Take Two has confirmed this to be true, but as one can expect, the PC version should be out within six to eight months of the game’s console release.
GTA 4 will set stores on fire on April 29 for PS3 and Xbox 360. This time around, the game is based on a rip off version of New York City, dubbed Liberty City, and is set in the present time. Besides the obvious crime-based missions in the game, players will have the option to make friends and maintain relationships with people in the game for added benefits.

Of course this game will come out for pc, the ps3 and 360 are very expensive, rockstar will gain more profit if they release gta 4 for pc, more people will buy the game.
Probably, the game will not come for pc before 2009, and the system requirements will be huge, but i think this game won’t disappoint it’s fans.

as far as ive heard and know on april29 th thexbox and ps versions will be released regrding on pc the rockstar will probably announce it on aprilthe 29 th and i think probably its gonna come around two to 3 months maximium after its release on other consoles this is because it was already due to relese in europe around last year and they stated that it would come put on pc, now you dont think that they wouold just shut down pc productions for xbox and others. the bad news ull have to wait for it on pc,that sucks and i stiill play it on pc, yeah i do ,wait for april 29 th for more conformation of release dates and others ,until then make sure u destroy ur friends xbox,,huhuh haha

people come on, just because you dont own a decent enough pc to play good games on doesnt mean the rest of us can’t. first person shooters are especially more playable with a mouse and keyboard. and with the current quad cores and high end duals couple with 2 gigs of RAM and two competitive video cards i dont see how gta4 will be so hard to accomplish on the pc. since the advent of multiple video cards PC gaming has continued to grow alongside next gen gaming, and there are more demanding games than gta4. lets get serious a game that takes 640 video memory and 500 gigs of ram to install? that sounds more than little exaggerated kinda like a comment a kid would make. even as big as san andreas was it only took up 3 gigs in my HD (i cant imagine gta4 being more than double that size maybe 8 gigs at the most), and im running it at 65-100 fps maxed out on a 1024 by 1080 monitor (and it looks millions time better than it will look on console, which will probably also be the case for the next release)…..so how is that for no one playing on the PC?

People relax gaming at pc is quite different than console gaming.Both are great but GtA4 is better played at pc cause of the shooting first of all.I have ps3 and a descent pc (dual core with ati 3580) and i think i ll wait for the pc version.

Yeh i agree totally, and for the system requirement theories I believe it will be on the same lines of ‘Assassins Creed’ system recommendations, which statistically are the same as ‘Crysis’ requirements. The difference is i can max out Assassins Creed with 40fps+
So I wouldn’t stress to bad about your system whether you have a DX10 or 9 setup because I remember San Andreas performing like a dream and back then my comp was a piece of S*!#
In the end of the day whether its going to have DX9 support or just be only DX10 it will come down to how well they will polish and tune the game itself, and this is where Crysis failed, epically.
But for now id be more concerned about whether we will see it on pc or not, this tension that Rockstar are building on us pc gamers is ridiculous and i doubt they even realize or care.

Hi, 1 PC is alot cheaper then consoles as we dont pay subscrition to play online game only mmorpgs, yes the computers cost alot at frist but will last longer then a console, graphics are better games are cheaper for pc and free if you no what your doing, and unlike xbox if you put free games on it does not destroy it. but consoles are good for simple people.
and requments will prob be 2.5GHz-3.0GHz single core graphics card will be like the nvidia 7000 series about only 256mb ram i dont think it will need dual core as min but look at guitar hero worst port ever lol

I’ve been playing GTA ever since 1998 on my PC ,uptill now all GTA’s has been ported to PC and have been highly successful.GTA 4 will surely be ported to the PC,I dunno when but I can guarantee you the PC version will feature better graphics.
Most of us has played and even beaten last years system hog Crysis which required a Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz,1 GB RAM and 256 MB GeForce 6600 @ least.This year we have Assassin’s Creed and it requires Pentium D 2.6,1.5 or maybe 2 GB RAM,256 MB GeForce 6600.GTA series has never been a system hog so I can’t imagine people saying such bullshits.I think 3 ghz Single Core,1.5 GB RAM and 256 MB Graphics Card supporting DirectX 9.0C/10 (Geforce 7xxx or Radeon HD) will do fine.
If you plan on playing GTA 4 next week then go buy a X360.

Of course it will come out for PC, the companies are in the end always about money, and you can always get more money by releasing for PC.
Let me point something out, XBOX360 and PS3 are INFERIOR in every way to a higher end PC, not just in function but in specifications also, yes, it costs insanely more, but in the end, it’s worth it.
And the requirements you guys have no doubt guessed are ridiculous in the extremes. 500GB harddrive? let me tell you something, GTA4 is available on a NORMAL multilayered DVD for xbox360, which at most holds 10GB of data.
Even if they used 5x compression (impossible, the best compression available is about 2.4) it would still only take 50 GB maximum.
You are all fools who know nothing about the true technical depth of computers, or even their console counterparts that you so idolize. Read some and inform your selfs before making more misguided statements please.

Let’s compare gta4 graphics with crysis graphics. U can run decently crysis with a 8600gts and an E4400 (settings: high no AA) so probabely u will be able to run gta4 with this kind of computer with no problem. And the harddrive? I say 20 gb maximum

This is what happens when you get a pile of 12 year old console fans. They sit back and make up crap and sit back and giggle like little giddy girls. And xbox is definitely a less convenient. kids love them because they get on the living room floor with them when daddy tells them to get out of the office. The PC version will be out because rockstar wouldn’t want to lose all the money it will generate at it’s release. There are three obvious choices for release. October. Near Christmas, or early 2009 in January. I doubt they wait an entire year and have people notice gta4 would be a year old.

Ive got to say reading all this, that that console vs pc war thats been going on for ages, is getting crazy now. Yes, im a pc gamer. ive never owned a console. I prefer my PC. I can justify spending £1000+ on a High End Custom Built Pc, because i use it all the time. Im always making websites or graphic packages, or recording music, and also playing games. Only one of those things can be done on a console. Yes, admitidly Vista was the worst system consuming OS to ever plauge the humble PC, but if you’ve got a fairly decent machine it can be worth it. Anywho, back to the point. Hopefully GTA4 will be out on PC. Even though its out on consoles first, who cares. Yes, its annoying, but! we (PC Gamers) have the added advantage that it will have all its bugs fixed, the graphics will look 10x better due to the resolutions we can throw at our monitors. The one thing i still struggle to understand, is that Games are made ON PC’s. So then it would be easier to write it for PC first no? Meh. – Loki -

then you can get up to 8 cores octocore
one game theats on pc that graphically superior= crysis nothing comes close

I dont know if its comin out on pc an im not goin to blag that i have a familly member working for rockstar….but heres my arguement coz reading some of these posts pissed me off. Pc’s Rule.. Consoles are limited hunks of junk..Pc’s now run x-box 360 game pads through usb so if u dont like mouse & keyboard then theres the solution. secoundly mouse an keyboard is the way for fps’s rightly said a few comments above. Pc Pro gamers are miles ahead of console pro’s..scores e.t.c Gta 4 will be on pc for these simple facts every other gta has right from number 1 the reason it takes so long.. (based on inteligence) is that pc equipment varies so vastly that they have to work and work on solutions to problems.. sort of patching b4 release. The game testers will report bugs e.t.c back an they will iron them out over time b4 the release. so yeh..gta 4 will be on pc..purely also because theres millions of revenue lost if they dont. fact! and about requirements…. they will be very flexable i think.. engines can be stripped now a days i.e cod4 i run that on a p4 single core with a 6800gt on 4x an 1 gb ram …and i own.. i do ..(player name [FuN]MooDSwinG) people also play it with dual and also quad cores with all types of cards. I think the biggest question the PC/console debate faces is this: how long is there going to be a difference? We’re fast approaching the point where in-game footage will be nearly indistinguishable from real life visuals. Sure, PCs will always have the leg up on processing power due to the ease of upgrades, but eventually you’re going to reach the maximum resolution and frame rate that the human eye can process.

as far as system requirements go, it will probably require cpu power more so than graphics. think about it. the landscape of san andreas is HUGE!!! the new lib city is about as big, ony WAY more detailed, complicated, and advanced. more cars, more peds, etc. this will require a very powerful cpu. i just bought an intel core 2 quad q9300 @2.5 GHz, and i’m wondering if that’ll be able to handle it. i might have to overclock. as far as graphics go, i have XFX GeForce 9600 GT in SLI, meaning i can run crysis in 1280×1024, all settings on high, anti-ailiassing 4x at a steady 25 fps. judging from the screenshots, gta4 doesn’t look up to par with crysis in the graphics department. it shouldn’t bee TOO bad for system requirements

wat m tryin to say is dat i cud’ve easily bought an Xbox360 (which i do own but dont really play shooting games on it only racing n sports) pc games r always better although we have to wait abit more then those crappy console freaks but we got the advantages easily online play better graphics more integrated controls more sound quality a heck lot of downloadable content the community never dies 
PC gaming rules and will always rule over consoles the gaming was made on pc the gta series was made on pc even the gta IV game engine was made on pc 
hehe so m sure that rockstar will release it on Pc but i probably wud take 5 or 6 or maybe 9 months not more then that (i hope) ne way m out

Of course it’s going to come out on the pc. And the requirements won’t be that steep. Having played it now, I can comfortably say that my year old pc would be able to run it just fine, based on the graphics and processing requirements of other games that it has no problems running.

First of all i would like to say that all you consol users are bickering about a fight you will never win. Pc is just better! just get over it. more flexible, better graphics (x100000!!!),and when push comes to shuv when newer games come out for different platforms you will be the first person at the storeline to buy a whole new machine! I think I will stay with my PC, after all it will take them 10+ years to release a console that can produce the graphic displays that my TOP OF THE LINE PC produces!! And by then, I will be even farther ahead!!
And yes, GTA4 will be out for PC Oct. 26th.

Well, it seems the average age here is 12, based on your nonsensical posts. This “war” between PC and consolers is laughable. Who cares which is better… it is what is best for the individual.
As for whether it will make it out to the PC, it may. However, it still takes time, money and resources to port the code over to a PC. Whether this is feasible in their business model is not known, but if it is, it will show up. Time will tell.

now after reading all this i agree with a ton of the people pcs are just hands down better at everything and the people who say that the pcs cost more thats not always true the prices are droping quite alot where u can get a 9600gt 4gb ram a mobo and a quad core q6600 for like 400$ that alone would out perform like 10x ps3’s rolled into 1 on top of that the ps3s in my area here cost 650$ still and i personally see it as the people buying them getting riped off with what ur getting. also as someone has said that gta series came out for the pc first and of course it did but why the hell do us pc users have to wait so damn long for a release if anything they should be releaseing on PC First to show off the sexy graphics the game would have to get more buyers from console users in the future, expecting it to look that as good as the pc and such on top of that you would think it would allow for more bug fix’s and such befor going to consoles

i dont know if it is fake but i get a photo image in the pre order site and it says the take 2 is not yet confirmed the release date but its a photo of gta 4 case that have a sign “PC” for window on the top.Wish it would be real.

Sure I’d love to build a sweet gaming pc, but I got sick of windows a few years back and yes, sure, I could go through the trouble of learning Linux, but I just don’t use my home computer for much more than putting music on it and checking movie listings. If I wanted to build a gaming pc I’d spend a lot of time reading up on the best components, hunting for bargains, setting up the computer and going through the trouble of getting everything set up so it works ideally. I’d much rather slap down the cash for a console, plug it into my tv (maximum setup/install time twenty minutes, and that includes the time it took to buy the thing at gamestop) and get right to playing. Sure, your PC might give you better graphics and higher resolutions, but honestly I’ll take quality gameplay over graphics anyday. Sure, I love games that look great like Bioshock or God of War, but remember, just because something looks nice, doesn’t mean it’ll be good at anything else. Think Jessica Alba.

Look this argument about pc versus xbox is ridiculous. Although the pc can have better processors, more memory, and pretty much everything better, the xbox always wins. Why, do u ask? Well I’ll tell you. Xbox has a better online system (live) then the pc. It has the best controller (which can be plugged into the pc but it sucks because its not the same as most the time you have to fix the controls manually) to control your person. And the final thing, we beat you to the finish line. Who choses xbox and playstation first, well, every producer of any game. They know that gaming consoles are better to go with, then, by decision, they pity pc gamers so they convert it just for you

To Ewoksrock. Building a computer isn’t even that hard. 20 minutes tops to put in hardware, and windows doesnt even take long to install. I built my system in a half hour/45 minutes. PC’s are not consoles. PC’s are an entity, basically everything is based off of what a Personal Computer is. It’s the same as the Mac vs PC….a mac IS a fucking PC you morons, its just a consumer based and company locked copyright Operating System, but it uses the exact same fundamentals as a….PC.
Consoles are made for one purpose….gaming, that doesn’t mean the consoles will have the best array of games, it means the hardware your using is made for gaming. The look and speed may impress you, but not if you know how to look at hardware. I’ve had a 360, I liked it. Ive sold it. I have had plenty of consoles over my lifetime and you know what? I still don’t compare them at all to a PC, because they arent a freaking computer.
Cliff put it best. You can always upgrade your PC hardware, especially if you built it on your own, which isnt very difficult to do. Just a little costly, but so is buying anything for your console.
The game will be on PC, and if you think it won’t you obviously have no idea how the whole gaming operation works.
You see, companies make games so that people can play them, so that they can make money, to make more games so that more people can play them so that they can make more money so they can make more games.
More platforms, better chances for successful releases.
When big name games come along, with a lot of hype, the companies won’t say to each other, “Say, lets stick with the PS3 market, they are certainly our largest audience despite the shitty reviews the console itself has run up, and who ever uses PC’s anyway anymore?”

another thing 10 million people play World of warcraf online and thats just one single pc game, i dont think there is one console that even has that many players online, pc also supports upto 64 players online in battlefield 2 and console can only handle 32 at most, there are so many advantages to pc gaming than console gaming (i must say tho their are alot more racing games availible for consoles than pc) and everyone gos on about console hD gaming pc have had it for years, but at the ned of the day pc will always be better but if you like console gaming fine if you like pc gaming fine.

My consoles have never crashed. I’ve had an Xbox 360 for more than a year and no red rings of death yet. My PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 always run when I want them to. Can you PC gamers tell me you’ve never had a problem with yours? Ever?
As far as ‘pcs had HD for years’, yes, you had a very nice pixel count for games that still didn’t look much better than they would have on a decent tv. The one thing consoles have that pcs don’t? I can sit on my couch and play games with friends on a single console. No internet connection or other systems necessary.

It’ll come out on PC eventually. Consoles are easier. Fact is, every console is the same, so if it’ll run right on one 360, it’ll run right on them all. PC’s aren’t that simple, you have to try and make it run right on almost every combination of modern day hardware that’s out there. That’s alot harder, and takes alot more time. It’s not piracy, or cash, or anything else, it’s the fact that it takes alot longer to make a game work right on most PC’s than on consoles.

I’m an electronic engineering student, and me and my mates LAN every weekends seemlessly (games like: DOTA, Call of Duty 4, Command and conquer, Fifa 08, etc) before working on our final year project with just a few cables and a hub. My point is PC’s are far better at multi-tasking than just your lame Consoles.I run my PC on a 46-inch full-HD Samsung. PC’s can do everything a console can and more, and there’s no fat guy in some office dictating what or how do I use my PC like consoles have, they are always trying to prevent people to use Homebrew apps on them. So, Console fanboys can go hump a thorny tree for all I care.

Not to mention the fact that Xbox360 crotrollers are DESIGNED TO BE compatible with PC and work fine with no mods in most PC games. In fact its a requirement to be certified to be a Games for Windows title to have full xbox360 controller support built into the game. I imagine GTA 4 will be a games for windows title.

GTA 4 will own on PC not many of these console nubs Seem to realize that if a game appears on PC, The modifications and customizations make the community take for example HALF LIFE 2.
So many mods Another example GTA San Andreas,GTA VC etc plus gaming on the pc is always better the consoles will eventually die out when while we wait for the next console to appear the PC can always be constantly upgraded.
SO to clarify PC owns all as multiplayer, modifications etc is just a lot better.

LOL ur all crazy let me start by telling you guys with ur ps3s and xbox 360s how much the graphics suck compared to the pc. The pc started the gaming industry the xbox an ps3 are both built around a pc to start with but still aint nothing compared to the pc and considering most hd lcd and plasma tvs aint nothing compared to the pc monitor for high definition picture quality why bother.
Now here are the facts min system requirments will be a p4 1.8ghz cpu or equil 1gb ddr2 533mhz ram a 256mb pci-e graphics card with 400mhzgpu and 5gb free hd space not forgetting a dvd rom drive.
With the min requirments above you will be able to play gta4 at a low screen res with all the fx quality turned down to minmum.
For you hardcore gamers out there that want almost real visual fx you will need a core2 duo 2.5ghz or equil cpu a p4 3ghz with ht will do depending on how many other apps ur have running in the back ground but the dual core will def have no problems running the game also a geforce 7 series and above with 512mb i wud recomend 1gb ddr3 pci-e card and 2gb ddr2 800mhz ram 5gb hd and a dvd rom drive rockstar are def releasing the game for the pc oct-nov 08

Obviously it’s coming out for PC.. and obviously for xp. (how many people run vista anyway.. nooot too many) if it doesn’t, then microsoft and rockstar and everyone inbetween apparently don’t like to make money.
And console vs computer.. please people.. yeah spend a few extra (hundred) dollars for a computer initially to start, but then it’s forever upgradeable and by the very next generation of consoles, you’re saving way more money than the console gamers who have to buy a new system for beyond $400.
Personally, I don’t want to pay the $400-$600 for a ps3 when it will be totally useless when the ps4 or whatever the next gen will be comes out (and probably for twice the price). Everyone rushes the latest greatest console.. I’ve had the greatest since I started.. My PC. Plus, no console controller will ever beat a good ol mouse and keyboard for controls.. (cept maybe the wii remote)
The only good use for a console is to buy it on release, and sell it on ebay right after to the suckers who don’t want to wait in lines and are willing to pay more.

i got over consoles as soon the the ps3 was released, i got it straight as it came out full price which was like what, $400? can’t really remember.. anyway, later on when the 360 and ps3 came out i was left with my crappy ps2 and with no chance of getting a $500 – $1000 console so i was left with my ok computer.
then we upgraded it for $500 – $1000 bucks so now it has 9800 GTS 512 gc and 2 G RAM n shit, can you upgrade your xbox or ps2? NO, the only way you can improve console gaming is to buy another console that costs a fucking heap of cash and then when another comes out you have to buy that one.

honestly, i think that the cpu is the main focus of worry here, not the graphics card(s). think of liberty city. it’s a huge, thriving metropolis with NO load times! that means everything is operating at the same time. the WHOLE CITY! now, imagine this, and add some euphorea to the mix. euphorea is the new physics engine that makes humans more human. it takes some serious computing power. this will take a monster cpu. luckily for me, i’ve got intel core 2 quad 2.5GHz Q9300, which will probably have NO problem running that city and engine. now think about the graphics. has anyone ever played crysis? can they honestly compare to GTAIV? i’m not trash talking the graphics of the new GTA, i love the games more than any other series. i’m just saying, crysis is THE MOST BEAUTIFULLY REAL GAME EVER!!! it was only released on pc for a reason: because only pcs can run it at full settings. i’ve got XFX GeForce 9600 GT 512 in SLI, and i run crysis at 30fps constantly. my cpu is simply overkill. crysis doesn’t need all that power. my cpu cost me 300 bucks, and it’s less now. the cards were 220 each, so 440 for both. with my new rig, (i built it a few weeks ago) i doubt if i have any problems running gtaiv.

well baber i would suggest you upgrade to 1gb ram, and a better videocard….but you aren’t really telling me a lot of info on your computer. What kind of cpu do you have?? pentium 4 ? pentium D and what kind of ram do you have? ddr ddr2 and so on you need to be more specific, but from what i can tell you are really outdated you can get a decent upgrade im talking cpu, videocard, motherboard and ram for $400 if you know what you are doing.

Well, if jovcha91 is right about the requirments, I could say that these are quite decent requirments for an outstanding game like GTA IV… Hopefuly, they will remove existing bugs found on xbox 360 or ps3s and come up with a, almost, bug-free game… Now, all I have to do is to go and upgrade my crapy PC and wait…:)

It will be released for PC. And for the record the PS3’s gfx chip is a modified nvidia 7800GTX core. Should give you some idea what the minimum recommended card will be.

PS3 is a modified 6800 ultra, which is essentially similar to a 7800gtx. They use very similar cores apparently so as to be indistinguishable.
PC ruins any console, to say GTA4 looks disappointing is an understatement when compared to crysis or even CoD4. It just looks bland, lifeless. I suppose thats what happens when you have to drop all anti alaising and anisotropy.
Also multiplayer GTA, been playing it in San Andreas for years, it’s called multi theft auto. Where was that on the console version?

Rockstar and company would be quite foolish not to release this on PC. Theyve had huge success with PC releases for the other GTAs, why stop here? There is a very large market (including myself) of PC gamers that don’t bother with consoles that want this game. It would sell extremely well. As far as system requirements go, let’s take a look at San Andreas for PC. The requirements are next to nothing, 64 MB graphics card, 1 GHz processor, and 256 MB RAM. Im thinking requirements for GTA4 will be double that, which by today’s standards is not a lot to ask at all. If Rockstar does a GOOD JOB porting this game to PC (unlike vice city), the requirements won’t be too much above the specs for Xbox 360/PS3. Heck, maybe this time theyll even give us graphics options to control!

Of course it’s going to come out for PC! I remember when the first GTA ever came out solely for the PC and then to the PS1. The PC is GTA’s original platform and although xbox and ps bought the rights to the game, it will forever be on the PC.

I suspect Microsoft and sony might have paid rockstar to release the game first in the console to push up the sales of their respective consoles , knowing full well the massive fan following GTA franchise has .Anyways, think it should be released fairly soon in the PC.I think the delay is mainly due to financial reasons.Don’t think rockstar will take a huge risk making it a ‘console only’ game.

Microsoft is capable of pulling such stunts.When Halo became a hit on the pc it bought of Bungie(maker).Made it console only and finally when Halo3 was released in the xbox 360. Halo2 was released for the Pc but was a vista only game.Didnt make vista sell any faster did it?lol.
Though the news is that Halo was proping up the sales of xbox360. Something similar must have happened in this case too involving rockstar.

They will must make a pc version. No one in eastern europe has a console. We all use pc’s. Some of us even buy original copies. I have even been thinking about buying an original when it comes on pc, something that I never do. I agree that they made it for xbox first to raise salles of it (xbox). They probably think that many will not wait for pc version and buy an xbox specially for GTA4. Consoles make more money than pc because you cant upgrade them and have to buy new ones all the time. With pc you can sell your old parts, with consoles you cant.

Consoles are more profitable than PC’s. If you like to throw your money away DP go ahead and play on a console. The new one will cost you 300-400 EU and will be usable for a whole year maybe two after which you can use it for target practice. I wont even try to talk about how much more inferior the graphics on a console are. I spend 500-600 EU on a new computer and 200 EU a year to buy new parts. I sell old parts for about 100 EU a year. Microsoft doest like it when we save money, thats why the game is on console 1st.

The only true advantage to a console is ease of use. You plug it in, hit power, it works (….usually.)PC is easily upgradeable (can you upgrade your damn xbox or ps3?), has a huge community for modding and so forth, ect.
The only truely revolutionary thing which a console has is the PS3, and that’s the cell processor, which is pretty useless for gaming (If you don’t know what a cell processor is, pretty much it has the ability to setup unlimited cores via virtual cores) but very nice for medical and science research teams.
And GTA 4 WILL come out for console, can pretty much gurantee it. RockStar all ways produces for the PC, it takes them a little more time to convert the code over and fix some problems and so fourth, but it ALL WAYS has come out for PC. Just hang in.

One last thing which I forgot to mention, if your xbox or ps3 screws up, you have to send it back to Microsoft or Sony, most likely it will not be something you can fix from home. PC, you can fix software + hardware issues from home most of the time, for free 99% of the time unless you had a failure of hardware.

i just did some research about the past release dates of past gta games. excluding the top-down titles and the “stories” titles, they’ve been pretty consistent. each one has released in late october on the consoles, and about 6.5 to 7.5 months later for pc.
gta3 – late oct 2001 consoles – early may 2002 pc
gtavc – late oct 2002 consoles – early may 2003 pc
gtasa – late oct 2004 consoles – early june 2005 pc
so now…
gta4 – late april 2008 consoles – late nov or early dec 2008 for the pc!!!
all this hype about a possible december release might actually be true.

It really pisses me off to see how misinformed everyone is, and making assumptions on why games are released later on different architectures.
First of all, if anyone thinks that the PS3, or the Xbox 360 has more graphics processing power than a gaming rig from even nearly over three years ago, needs to do a quick Google search on the architectures used on the consoles. I didn’t say processing power…. but CPU power doesn’t mean shit without equivellent graphics power for a game console and vice versa… think a Core 2 Duo QX9750 with a 8400 GS, or a Athlon 64 3000+ with Tri-SLi GTX 280s. The PS3 uses an optimized version the G70 architecture – which is the equivalent of an enhanced version of the 7×00 series GPUs (most likely really close to the 7900GTX). I had dual 7900GTXs in SLi back in 2006… a year before the PS3 was even released.
Now lets look at the 360. It uses a GPU based on the R500 GPU. Ok, now lets look at that in computer-terms. The G520 is used in the Radeon X1000 series. I also had the X1900XTX in CrossFire back in 2005…. that is about the same time that the 360 came out.
Ok let look at current GPU solutions. I run dual 9800GTXs in SLi right now. The G90-420 can pull 648 GFlops in processing power, and in comparison, the G70 (or NV47) can produce around 255 GFlops. Nearly 3* the Raw processing power than the PS3. That doesn’t even include improved features like Pixel Shader 4.0 and other archtectual optimizations. Do your own research on the new GTX 280 that just came out, and both the ATI 3xxx and 4xxx series (yet to be released). The PS3 and Xbox are no match for a modern gaming rig in gaming power.
nVIDIA and ATi do NOT… I repeat do NOT need to make any more developments in order for PCs to run GTA 4, or any Console game out there. Programming for different architectures is different, and even if you have all the textures and 3D models to create a game, you got to program it for that certain system it needs to run on. The PS3, 360 and the PC all have different SDKs and languages and functions. You can’t just click “File -> Import” and make it work.

Also, to the person near the beginning that asked, what are the minimum requirements to run GTA4…. *bangs head on the table*. If you are asking such a stupid question, you don’t have the computer to run it. Your probably running on your parents 4 year old Dell build with an Intel IGP with a P4 2.8 with 512MB of RAM.
From the graphical complexity of the game (I have both the PS3 and two 360s, I know how it looks on both), I would say you need at least a Core 2 Duo 2.2, and an 7800GTX, 8600 or 9600 with 2GB of RAM to run this game without it looking like a sideshow at medium settings.
Do us all a favor and go ask for a 360 for your birthday or Christmas.

Lastly, buddy at post 196. You know what 15-30 FPS looks like? Go get your photo album and flip through your pictures….. get a rough idea yet? It runs at at least 35fps at the most intensive scenes, and probably runs at an average of 40-50 fps. I know this from building gaming rigs and playing games since the GeForce 4 days.

I really wish they’d release it on pc. Come on, ur gonna spend more in buying a new PS3 than upgradin ur pc! Also, GTA’s also first person shooter in a lot of times. The use of a mouse is a lot more useful than using the analog stick to aim the enemies using a weapon which does not allow the autoaim feature. Also, it’s easier to make mods in the PC version. Rockstar would want the game to sell because people would like the game. If the game can be modded so people would like it more, why not release it for pc?

actually hey kooty, seems like you may know as much as me, or even more then me when it comes to gaming rigs and computer hardware rendering.
what are your specs?
also you know anything about OCing quad-cores, even though its quite possible now with the 780i mobos to attain a good OC, i still only have a 680i striker. (which has alot of glitches with the bios)
anywho, i’m pretty sure you you something, if not a lot about OCing, good to see that there’s at least someone here to shed light on the people that are computer illiterate lol.

gta4 will come to the PC and specs will be weak, i mean shit, it runs on a 360 ffs… if u build ur own pc and u want it to run the latest games it will go about $800. i made mine for $760 and i can run crysis at max (dx10) with around 45 fps. now if i go out and buy a 360 for $600, it can barely run games with pretty much obsolete graphics… i mean fuck it cant even run its own games right (ring of death anyone?), you’ll be spending more time/money on cooling and turning off ur system every hour then actually playing some crappy game at crappy resolutiob with no AA or AF. i mean look at oblivion on PC vs 60, the difference is phenomenal. PCs will always rule consoles, thats all thier is 2 it, eventually ill haev a 360 and ps3 emulator running all the console games on my PC (and i didnt have to pay 600 for a piece of shit!)

Relax all, my mom is a hooker that comes alot at Rockstar when they need inspiration for their game. Here’s what she told me last time I was with my sister:
The game will NOT be out for PC. In fact they will start taking the XBOX and PS versions back and burn them all while singing some of the more unknown Elvis songs.
HOWEVER there will be a version out for PC that can be played for 1 hour, then it will warp itself into outer space (or just downdown to get a hot dog).

BULL SHIT!!This is a disrespect shown towards the pc by rockstar games. Its not anything abnormal that a pc version gets released after its console counterparts but this time around even three months after its console launch rockstar has not even uttered a word about the pc. It feels like the pc is a non existent platform for rockstar. When GTA 4 comes out for the PC please Boycott it or if you still want to play it than go pirated. Just make sure that rockstar doesn’t get even a single penny out of the PC platform thanks to its disrespect towards this platform. And when its earnings nosedive it will remember what the PC was for it, what it is for it and what it could be for it.

To all you guys over there at rockstar: You better get it right cause the PC gaming world is not not gonna stop for you. You have to stop for it. And games like Crysis are a living proof of this.

anirudh, you do realize that what you said is exactly why rock star makes pc user’s wait?
if the pc version came out the same time the console games more then 50 percent of they profits would be a lost cause, because a week later after the release everyone would have a pirated copy.
not to mention, not everyone has a high powered pc powerful enough to play the game at full specs or good enough specs compared to a ps3 or 360. they know this, so thats why they’re take there time to convert it to the pc format.
while i have no doubt it will come out for pc, theres still the matter of the fact that you’ll have to buy a legit version of the game to play online.
though, it maybe you think its disrespect, they’re being smart. Rockstar would not make the money that they hypothesized if they released the game for pc the same time they released it for the 360 and ps3.
also, just because they released it first for the 360 and ps3, the PC version will be superior: graphic wise, control wise, and online capabilities.

But its been more than three months since they released it on the console.
The sales from the consoles should have cooled down a lot by now.
They would make much more profit by releasing it on the PC now than they are currently earning on the consoles.

I’m surprised you have come so long with rockstar’s gta but still you do not know that the testing of the final product for the ps3 and xbox360 is actually done on a Pc.The Pc can handle gta4 far much better than the consoles ,as a matter of fact the versions for the consoles have been stripped of some detail that run smoothly on a pc to facillitate smooth running of the game on the consoles.The sole reason for this delay is the microsoft agreement to promote the consoles and undoubtedly not the pc capability to handle the game.

dude, nobody knows the requirements. nobody will until it comes out, or very close before. you’d need to give us more detailed information about your specifications so that we can judge whether or not you can run it. my guess is no. you’d need a more powerful cpu, more ram, and i’m not sure about the gpu, cause i’m not familiar with radeon, only nvidia

the only thing i see needing a lot of power is the cpu. think about it: loading a fully rendered liberty city at once will take some monster power. but then, throw in all the cars, pedestrians, and things they’re doing. THEN, throw in the RAGE engine AND the euphoria engine. all that together will take a damn good cpu. luckily, i’ve got a quad core q9300 @ 2.5GHz, so i’m fine. as far as graphics goes, it can’t look any better than cod4 in my opinion, and i play that at an average 60fps. it never lags. this is because of sli, however.

IGN have now confirmed that the PC release date of Grand Theft Auto IV has been pushed back to the 2nd of December. They say that Rockstar haven’t released a reason behind this, however IGN have also put up the System Requirements for the game:
