Stargate Worlds a “Game First, License Second”

February 1st, 2008 Posted in Action, MMO, News, PC by Will Prusik

While developers can often make a relatively quick, easy buck by creating terrible video game versions of television shows and films, that formula won’t work on anything designed to be a lasting product, such as an MMO.  Developer Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment has insisted that their upcoming “Stargate Worlds” MMORPG is going to keep this fact in mind and will have creating a game that people will actually find engaging and enjoyable versus simply slapping together a basic framework, pasting in a whole bunch of aliens and then selling the product. Interestingly enough the developer doesn’t consider WoW to be a direct competitor, citing the difference in the game settings (medieval fantasy world vs. sci-fi). Unfortunately for them, a good portion of the WoW crowd is also likely the same demographic as the Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis crowd.
