Wii Fit Next Big Thing In Japan

February 1st, 2008 Posted in News, Software, Wii by Brian Lockhart

It was hard to say whether Wii Fit would be the ‘next big thing’. All signs pointed to positive results, but weight loss is a touchy thing, and so is attempting to create so many magical runaway hits in so little time. But then, if anyone seems to have some sort of strange success with the casual market, that company is Nintendo, with Nintendogs, Brain Training, and Wii Sports all proving that innovation can move software, in huge quantities.

So it’s not all too surprising to say Wii Fit has completely dominated the software charts since its release on December 1st 2007. Despite that being a whole two months in the past, Wii Fit has demonstrated what it means to have legs, and has remained steadily in the number one position for the past four-week. Naturally the spree will come to a very sudden end, likely seeing the title drop to a number three spot behind Devil May Cry 4 and Nintendo’s own Smash Bros. Brawl. But expect this to be one title that holds its on for a very long time to come. In total 1,283,000 have been sold since the game launch, which places the game roughly at a 25% tie ratio. With supply constrains still holding this back, except that number to only continue going up.
