Despite high defect rates for the first batch of instruments shipped with Rock Band, EA claims that complaints made with the company’s support and replacement process were extremely infrequent. “We’ve had single-digit complaints around the guitar and the package,” said company CEO John Riccitiello, who clarified that “single-digit” referred to a percent figure. “One of the things I’m very proud of is the cooperation between [EA and Harmonix], and the frankly unprecedented customer service support. All the data I’ve got now suggests that consumers are very happy.”

The company had offered to ship replacement peripherals to customers with hardware failures without waiting for the defective units to be returned. Those who experienced long response times were compensated by free EA games.

I went to my brother in laws house to download songs for my rockband. I didn’t have my cord with me for my xbox 360 so i used his console with my hard drive. I took my hard drive home and now I can’t play the songs I downloaded at all. I called Microsoft and Rockband and neither one can help me. I am out 56 dollars. I am warning other people not to do this. I think this is ridiculous. If you purchase the songs and they are on your hard drive you should be able to play them period. I am going to buy Guitar Hero IV when it comes out and trashing the rockband. I would advise anyone who hasn’t bought rockband to wait for Guitar Hero IV which has more to offer. Rockband is the only game that I have encountered that does that.

If you self report your complaints, it’s easy to say “single-digit complaints” have been received. I had the misfortune of buying a release-date game for which the hardware lasted a little longer than the rest. Despite the fact that I am having the same issues reported over and over with the drums and guitar, I’m not getting any replacements. I too will wait for Guitar Hero IV, EA is not getting any more of my money.
