Earlier last month we heard word from Inafune that Mega-Man would not be making his way into Brawl, a fact that is now quite obviously confirmed. But not for the reasons one might expect, despite him wanting to slip Mega-Man into the title, Nintendo simply never approached him on the matter. Which seems all well and good when the story hit a while ago, but now the truth is starting to leak out somewhat.
It turns out the indeed, it was not Capcom’s decisions to keep their characters out of Brawl, but a decision formed by Nintendo. And probably not for the reasons you’d expect.
It turns out that Nintendo was (although it may be dissapating), feeling a little sore from the Gamecube days. Specifically springing right back to Resident Evil 4, the Gamecube exclusive title that Capcom had second thoughts about. While the performance of the title was never stellar, Capcom announced that the game would be coming to PS2 actually well before it was launched for the Cube, and that obviously had to have some effects on how the game sold, especially when it hit the PS2 and PC with extra content.
An interesting quote has been floating around from an unnamed Capcom rep, “You must defeat Shen Long to stand a chance… at mending fences with Nintendo.” Whether true or not, the rumors are certainly interesting none the less. Although the character decisions in Brawl were obviously made a good while ago, things are certainly looking bright for the two company’s relationships. Capcom holds two of the highest rated 3rd party Wii titles in both Zack and Wiki, and funny enough their port of Resident Evil 4. In addition to pulling PS3 exclusive Monster Hunter 3 to the Wii, the fences are quickly repaired. Unfortunately, just not in time for Brawl.

1This is too bad. Megaman would have been nice.
