bfheroessoldier.jpgThis blog post on the Battlefield Heroes website carries first details on the upcoming free-to-play installment in the multiplayer-centric shooter series. It includes word that the game is based off of the Battlefield 2142 engine and will be “faster, cheaper and easier” to deploy and play.

The development team, according to the post, is trying to preserve the core elements of the Battlefield franchise to make it feel like a legitimate part of the series, though they are making it cartoony and unrealistic. Finally, writing on the latter, the post’s author notes that the team wanted to “return to the crazy unrealistic feel of Battlefield 1942 and Codename Eagle, games which we had both been fans of.”
